history of the Greater northeast collegiate league
Established in the summer of 2017, the GNCBL strives to meet the needs of college baseball players who want a competitive place to work on their skills without having to travel extensively. The ability to play quality ball while having a “home-base” allows for solid employment schedules, taking advantage of internship opportunities, and other activities, while they increase their baseball acuity to better help their college teams.
The League has seen steady growth since its' inception, starting with 4 teams in 2017, 5 in 2018, and 6 in 2019 forward. It has attracted ballplayers from schools all over New England and beyond. Ballplayers have shown their talents all across the League, creating parity among the teams.
In early 2024, the GNCBL was acquired by The Players League (TPL), a new take on the structure of summer collegiate baseball in the United States. The TPL is dubbed, the "League of Leagues," as it aims create a network of player-focused summer collegiate baseball leagues across the the country. The GNCBL is the second League to officially join the TPL portfolio, next to the flagship organization, The Old North State League. The new ownership group plans to uphold the existing competitive standards of the GNCBL, while growing their community presence and creating an top-notch fan experience at every ballpark.
